The Crab Team: A look back at SSISC’s story from creation to crustacean

Since our founding in 2009, the Sea to Sky Invasive Species Council has grown from one part-time staff member and a handful of volunteers to 16 staff members during the peak season with a broad range of partners and funders.

Now in 2023, our Crab Team, a dedicated group of volunteers, is in the middle of their third year sampling for the European Green Crab in Howe Sound in collaboration with Fisheries and Oceans Canada. This monitor project is designed to catch this highly invasive crustacean early, if/when it should appear in Howe Sound.

Read more about some of SSISC’s history as well as what our Crab Team is up to in this article written by the Invasive Species Council of British Columbia.
