We were recently contacted by Bhagyashree Chatterjee, Indigenous & civic affairs reporter at the Squamish Chief, about how local residents can get support invasive species control and the involvement of local Indigenous groups in SSISC’s operations.
The article covered:
- The links between knotweed, erosion and flooding
- Squamish Nation’s involvement in SSISC’s work
- The role of volunteers in monitoring for European green crabs in Átl’ka7tsem / Howe Sound
- How local residents can do their part, for instance by following Play Clean Go principles or reporting sightings of invasive species.
It’s heart-warming to notice the local media’s interest in environmental initiatives and biodiversity. Thanks for the opportunity, The Squamish Chief! You can read the full article on their website.
