Welcome to the crew!

Just like plants in the spring, our team keeps on growing. Our newest recruits are BC locals who enjoy exploring the mountains–introductions below!

Education and Outreach Assistant

Where are you from?

I’m very lucky to call the North Shore home.

What is the story behind your photo?

This photo was taken on King Creek Ridge in the Rockies. We had lost service and decided to hike a random trail. Of course, it turned out to be ridiculously muddy, steep, and slippery—a great way to humble yourself 🙂

What’s your favourite way to spend a day off?

Anything outside and with friends is all I really need.

If you were a plant, what would you be and why?

According to Buzzfeed I’m a lilac, and Buzzfeed knows best!

What are you most looking forward to while working with SSISC this summer?

I’m just so excited that I get to dedicate my time towards something I truly care about. If I could hug all our native plants I would!!!

If you were stranded on a desert island, what 3 items would you bring with you?

Pasta, some trash reality TV, and a margarita. Or maybe just pasta, pasta, and pasta?

Where are you from?

South Africa originally but I spent most of my life in Salmon Arm and have been living in Squamish for the last 4 years.

What is the story behind your photo?

It was my first time exploring Blackcomb’s backcountry. The day involved many laughs, tears, and necessary nap breaks.

What’s your favourite way to spend a day off?

I enjoy getting out skiing or climbing on my days off, but my absolute favorite thing is lounging by the lake or river when it’s too hot to do anything else.

If you were a plant, what would you be and why?

Probably a cactus. I love the sun and hot weather but definitely enjoy my space and can be a little prickly on occasion.

What are you most looking forward to while working with SSISC this summer?

I am really looking forward to working outside every day and getting to explore more in the Sea to Sky region. Also looking forward to learning more about invasive species and their impact on our ecosystem.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what 3 items would you bring with you?

A margarita, an inflatable flamingo, and some obnoxious sunglasses.

Where are you from?

I am originally from the Sunshine Coast, but I have been living in Squamish almost permanently since 2012.

What is the story behind your photo?

I was a field crew member for the Sea-to-Sky Mammal Monitoring project during the fall of 2020. My partner and I, our task was to recuperate over 30 wildlife cameras at different GPS locations in the Pemberton backcountry. This picture of Goat Peak was taken near the end of multiple days worth of bushwacking. Shortly after, we got drenched with freezing rain that turned to snow overnight.

What’s your favourite way to spend a day off?

My ideal day off starts with coffee and puppy cuddles, followed by rock climbing and afternoon beach times. It ends with a bbq with my favourite people.

If you were a plant, what would you be and why?

I think I would be a common camas because I prefer a moist, yet sunny environment, I love feeding my friends and making them feel nourished, and there is nowhere I’d rather be than the West coast of BC.

What are you most looking forward to while working with SSISC this summer?

My goal has always been to help foster a lasting sense of care in others when it comes to species conservation, so I’m really happy to be learning from an organization that works towards that same goal.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what 3 items would you bring with you?

My dog (can she count as an item?!). If I could have her I wouldn’t need anything else.
