We’ve expanded our team this summer to help us tackle invasives species in the Sea to Sky.
Let’s get to know a few of them a bit better…
Micaela Anguita
Field Program Manager
Where are you from?
Originally, Chile but I grew up in the Sea to Sky.
Woah! That’s a cool photo. What’s the story?
This was one of the best ski touring days I’ve ever had. It was taken in Japan on an 8 run, waist-deep powder day followed by a visit to the onsen pools (Japanese hotsprings) nearby.
What has been your favourite quarantine activity / project so far?
So far I’ve just tried to spend as much time outside climbing, scrambling and biking. I also built a gear closet so that all my gear is organized!
If you were a plant, what would you be and why?
I’d be a cactus because I thrive with little attention and I can be quite spiky.
You get $100 000 tomorrow! What will you do with it??
Donate, invest, adopt more dogs, pay off my student loans, and of course buy more ski and climbing gear.
What are you most looking forward to while working for SSISC this summer?
I’m most looking forward to working with the new Field Team and getting to know each of the members!
Claude-Anne (Clo)
Godbout-Gauthier
Education & Outreach Coordinator
Where are you from?
I’m from Gatineau, Quebec (just across the river from Ottawa).
Woah! That’s a cool photo. What’s the story?
The photo was taken on Panorama Ridge, during a hike I did last summer. We hung out on the ridge in seemingly freezing weather for 90 min to catch a glimpse of the view… and left without success. A solid day regardless!
What has been your favourite quarantine activity / project so far?
I rediscovered my love of puzzles during the spring, which was highly addictive! Otherwise my hobbies haven’t really changed… I still bike, craft and cook up a storm whenever I have a spare moment!
If you were a plant, what would you be and why?
Someone needs to remind me why I approved of these questions? They are so hard!
If I were a plant, I would be… something edible. A Black raspberry? Let’s go with that.
You get $100 000 tomorrow! What will you do with it??
I’d research the best ways to avoid paying tax on it! I’d set a portion aside for travelling. Otherwise, I’d donate some, and invest the rest.
What are you most looking forward to while working for SSISC this summer?
I look forward to seeing how we can improve our existing programs to adapt to Covid restrictions. We usually do a lot of in-person program delivery, so this is going to be a neat challenge!
Austin Tahiliani
Field Crew Lead
Where are you from?
I’m from Calgary, AB!
Woah! That’s a cool photo. What’s the story?
This photo was taken at the top of Mt. Rohr – had to hike up a muddy creek and scramble massive boulders to get to the top, but it was worth the 360 views!
What has been your favourite quarantine activity / project so far?
Living in Squamish, I’ve finally been able to get into mountain biking. It’s something that I’ve always wanted to do but never had the mountains around to do the sport justice. Other than that, I’ve also gotten into climbing and of course more backpacking!
If you were a plant, what would you be and why?
I would be Castilleja levisecta (Golden paintbrush), because I love the heat, am golden, and elusive.
You get $100 000 tomorrow! What will you do with it??
Pay off my student loans and invest the rest.
What are you most looking forward to while working for SSISC this summer?
Getting to know the Sea to Sky corridor very well, learning about new plants, and getting more mountain biking in 🙂
Thanks for getting to know us – check back next month for another round of introductions!
