Micaela

Field Program Manager

Number of years at SSISC?

5 years

What has lead you to this position?

I graduated in 2020 with a BSc in Natural Resource Conservation. I grew up in the Sea to Sky Corridor so my knowledge of the local area has really helped me in this position.

What’s an unpopular opinion you hold to be true?

I’m a big proponent of fully burning the marshmallow. Burnt > Toasted.

If you were a plant, what would you be and why?

Cactus, a little prickly but also needs some attention.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what 3 items would you bring with you?

My dog, my hydroflask waterbottle, coffee.

Claude-Anne (Clo)

Education & Outreach Coordinator

Number of years at SSISC?

I have been with SSISC for a little over 3 years now.

What has led you to this position?

Well that’s a big question… I hold a Masters in Political Science and a Graduate Diploma in Public Policy and Program Evaluation. I worked in program evaluation consulting for a few years, before reorienting towards horticulture and landscaping (and moving to BC!).

At SSISC, I get to combine both of my professional worlds (and then some!).

What’s an unpopular opinion you hold to be true?

That a ton of bricks weighs the same as a ton of feathers. (I realize it’s a fact and not an opinion, but somehow it doesn’t seem to have worked its way into common knowledge!?).

If you were a plant, what would you be and why?

This is such a hard question! Buzzfeed says I’d be a pothos, so let’s go with that. I’m pretty lanky afterall, so it seems fitting.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what 3 items would you bring with you?

Sunglasses (my eyes are very sensitive to sunlight), water (for obvious reasons), and an encyclopedia—because I constantly have a lot of questions. Like, a lot a lot.

Clare

Executive Director

Number of years with SSISC?

8 years — how time flies!

What has led you to this position?

My background is in biology and GIS – I have worked in a variety of conservation-focused jobs in the non-profit, government, and private sectors in Canada and Australia.

What’s an unpopular opinion you hold to be true?

Vegemite IS delicious!

If you were a plant, what would you be and why?

This might be a controversial choice – but I think I’m gonna choose Knotweed – it’s tenacious, persistent, and thrives anywhere, even when moved from one country to another!

If you were stranded on a desert island, what 3 items would you bring with you?

Hmmm, this is a tough one…. I’d need way more than 3 things! I think I’d go with a big hat, some vegetable seeds for my desert island vegetable garden, and my piano!

Spread the love
