What is Giving Tuesday?
Giving Tuesday is a global movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world.
Created in 2012, Giving Tuesday has become a day that encourages people to do good. Since then, the Tuesday that follows American Thanksgiving has become a day where people worldwide are invited to show they care about their communities by making a generous donation to a charity of their choice.
Without a doubt, Giving Tuesday is a trend everyone benefits from jumping on. Last year, in Canada:
- $43.6 M were donated online within 24 hours
- 600 lbs of food went to help those in need
- 464 scouts performed acts of kindness (according to givingtuesday.ca).
How you can help
On Giving Tuesday, SSISC is joining Sea To Sky Gives, a collection of charities and non-profit organizations that serve Squamish, Whistler, Pemberton and surrounding areas.
As a nature lover, you can help fight the spread of invasive species by making a donation to us. Prevention is the most effective tool in the fight against invasive species, and prevention begins with education.
By donating, you are funding hands-on community science initiatives and experiential learning activities, such as:
- European Green Crab monitoring in Howe Sound (a community science, volunteer-based initiative)
- Experiential learning activities at local schools
- Community weed pulls

I wanted to reach out and thank you for the programming that you put together for our group this summer. We got nothing but glowing feedback from the students and our staff about their time with you. The only thing that we heard could improve it was to do more!
