Identification

  • Large upright plant with a pungent odour.
  • Very large, hairless, deeply incised, maple leaf-like leaves to over 1.5m wide
  • 2 to 5m tall, hollow stems with coarse hairs arising from blister-like pustules. Reddish brown spots on stems.
  • Numerous small white flowers in a large, flat topped, terminal umbrella-like cluster.
  • Not to be confused with native Cow Parsnip which is much smaller (1-2m), has a flower cluster no more than 0.3m wide, and hairy, less incised leaves than Hogweed.
